JUNE 2007
Sly Fox
a comedy by Larry Gelbart
adapted from Ben Jonson's “Volpone”
Directed by Janet Sales
Assistant Director - Amy Fox
Stage Manager - Judi Liebert
Today's corporate hucksters can trace their con games back to when Ben Jonson wrote his dark comedy Volpone. Since greed and sex are just as funny today, Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H, Tootsie) created an updated version infused with show biz shtick and enough zinging one-liners to make Oscar Wilde blush with envy. Foxwell J. Sly is a con man extraordinaire trying to convince the town he's dying so he can safely walk away with all the gold he's fleeced. In the process he squeezes from them gifts, flattery and more, hinting that one will become his sole heir.
